A Review of Vertebrate Coprolites of the Triassic with Descriptions of New Mesozoic Ichnotaxa
نویسندگان
چکیده
Coprolites are the least studied and most under-sampled vertebrate trace fossils. They are very common in some Triassic localities. We recognize six new coprolite ichnotaxa: Alococopros triassicus, A. indicus, Saurocopros bucklandi, Liassococopros hawkinsi, Malericopros matleyi and Falcatocopros oxfordensis. The distribution of coprolite ichnotaxa is: Permian Hyronocopros amphipolar and Heteropolacopros texaniensis; Early Triassic Hyronocopros amphipolar and Alococopros triassicus; Middle Triassic Alococopros triassicus and ?Liassocopros sp.; Late Triassic Heteropolacopros texaniensis, Alococopros triassicus, Dicynodontocopros maximus, Malericopros matleyi, Liassocopros hawkinsi and Saurocopros bucklandi; Early JurassicLiassocopros hawkinsi and Saurocoporos bucklandi. We recognize the Liassocopros and Heteropolacopros coprolite ichnofacies.

Structural dynamics in northern Atlas of Tunisian, Jendouba area: insights from geology and gravity data
This paper presents a new interpretation of the geometry of Triassic alignment of J. Sidi Mahdi –J. Zitoun in Medjerda Valley Plain (Northern Tunisia) based on detailed analysis of gravity and seismic reflection data. The main results of gravity analysis do not show a distinguish gravity anomaly over Triassic evaporites bodies. The positive gravity anomaly seems to be related to the entire stru...
متن کاملIntroducing Mesozoic siliciclastic-rich refractory sand levels based on geochemical and physical properties in Iran
This research work introduces the Early Triassic, Late Triassic-Early Jurassic, and Early Cretaceous silica-rich sand levels at east and central Alborz, Kopeh-Dagh, and Central Iran, and compares them with the Permian silica-rich sand level in the Chirouk mine at east Iran. Ghoznavi and Gheshlaq loose sand in Alborz (Early Triassic-Early Jurassic), Soh quartzite in Central Iran (Early Triassic...
متن کاملTriassic Vertebrate Fossils in Arizona
The Triassic System in Arizona has yielded numerous world-class fossil specimens, including numerous type specimens. The oldest Triassic vertebrates from Arizona are footprints and (largely) temnospondyl bones from the Nonesian (Early Triassic: Spathian) Wupatki Member of the Moenkopi Formation. The Perovkan (early Anisian) faunas of the Holbrook Member of the Moenkopi Formation are exceptional...
متن کاملThe Earliest Post-Paleozoic Freshwater Bivalves Preserved in Coprolites from the Karoo Basin, South Africa
BACKGROUND Several clades of bivalve molluscs have invaded freshwaters at various times throughout Phanerozoic history. The most successful freshwater clade in the modern world is the Unionoida. Unionoids arose in the Triassic Period, sometime after the major extinction event at the End-Permian boundary and are now widely distributed across all continents except Antarctica. Until now, no freshw...
